CREEM Presents: MC5 - Kick Out The Jams - A Film By Leni Sinclair & Cary Loren
(MVD)
by Paul Autry

Conceptual artist and Destroy All Monsters co-founder Cary Loren has assembled rare, late 1960's film footage of the band shot by Leni Sinclair into a swirling psychedelic art piece. That description is taken directly from the back of the DVD case. Personally, I thought it sucked. Maybe it's just me, maybe I don't get it. But, if I wanted to listen to the music of MC5, which is what you've got playin' over the film footage, I'd go out and buy an album. As I sat here watching this release...with a finger on the fast forward button...I got the feeling that "Kick Out The Jams" was made to go well with an acid trip. Even the bonus material...an interview with John Sinclair from 2003...didn't do anything for me. I don't know how long that is because I turned it off after a few minutes. What's more, I thought it was way too long...and considering the fact that it's a 35 minute release, well, I'm sure you can figure out the rest. I don't think anyone other than the seriously hardcore fan will appreciate this one.
