The Story Of The Blues
(MVD)
by Paul Autry

Here's a release that I would suggest watching if you wanna learn more about the blues. It's a really good documentary that does tell the story. But, to be honest, I wasn't too impressed with it. I felt like I was watching the history channel and that's not exactly something I'm into. I watch television for entertainment...not to learn anything. That's what books are for. However, there's a great collection of blues music featured here and hearing some of those tunes was very entertaining. There's well over thirty tracks featured here and, if you're a hardcore blues fan, this is like finding the Holy Grail. Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson, Lonnie Johnson, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Jelly Roll Morton, Washboard Sam & His Washboard Band, Bessie Smith, B.B. King...they're some of the featured performers here. Some names you'll know, some you won't. But, it's interesting to hear all this music in one sitting. In my opinion, that's where the real story is...in the songs. You listen to the music and you know where the blues came from and what it's all about. That's what I think. Anyway, this release is for the hardcore blues fan, it's as simple as that. If that's you, check it out.
