Quiet Riot"Live In The 21st Century" Rule number one…never believe anything you read. Form your own opinion. I say that because I heard this release wasn't all that great. I thought I would check it out anyway because I happen to like Quiet Riot. It's not a bad release. The DVD features an up close and personal performance, mainly because it was filmed in a club, which some people view as a bad thing. Not so, in my opinion. I've been to "large" shows and, hey, it's a cool experience. But, ain't nothing better than seeing a band you admire up close…at least close enough where you can almost reach out and touch 'em. This release also features an audio CD of the performance, which I was rather pleased with. The only thing I wasn't too happy about was the way they changed some of their classic tunes, especially "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)." Don't get me wrong, it was cool to hear a different version of the song. But, it didn't seem as straight forward as the original…or even the live version that's featured on their "Greatest Hits" CD, which is a whole other story. I thought it was rather interesting how they threw "Messin' With The Kid" and "Party All Night" into the middle of the song though. "Thunderbird" was amazing and with stuff like "Mama Weer All Crazy Now," "Sign Of The Times" and "Cum On Feel The Noize," how can you go wrong? It's classic Quiet Riot…updated, of course…and better than ever. This release is worth picking up for the 1979 video clip featuring Randy Rhoads alone. There's also some additional bonus footage, which, I'll have to admit, could've been a little better. But, it's cool to see the band foolin' around and doin' their thing back in the day. This might not be the "ultimate" Quiet Riot DVD. But, it's one that's a worthy addition to any music collection. So, bang your head to some old school rock 'n' roll and check it out. http://www.frankiebanali.com |
