GG Allin and the Murder Junkies"Raw, Brutal, Rough & Bloody ~ Best Of 1991 Live" I can't remember when I first heard the name GG Allin. But, when I was told was he was all about, I couldn't help but wonder if it was all true. When I first got a computer, I did an online search on him and I found an article or two that really caught my attention. I couldn't believe what I was reading. A short time later, a CD was sent to me for review. I can't remember the title, but, I remember it wasn't all that great. The music was pretty cool. But, the singer was horrible. You couldn't understand a word he was saying. It was like a tidal wave of noise and vulgarity. I did my review, gave the CD a listen a few more times just to educate myself and, eventually, I took it to a store that bought used CD's and I got a few dollars for it. However, that experience did nothing to kill my curiosity. A friend of mine gave me a bootleg video he had, a 15 minute clip of a GG Allin show that he had lying around. Wasn't much to that either. He tried to hump the sound guy and he punched some guy in the face, that was about it. I watched it and I thought, "this isn't anything like what I read about. Where's the stuff that people told me about? Where's the violence? Where's the blood? Where's the shit?" Little did I know that all those questions would be answered years later in the form of "Raw, Brutal, Rough & Bloody ~ Best Of 1991 Live." GG Allin spent 19 months in the Adrian, MI. Correctional Facility. In March, 1991, he was paroled. September, October and November of that same year is when these shows took place. The camera work wasn't anything special. It was someone standing in the crowd with a camera and, considering how violent some of these shows got, the guy with the camera tends to lose GG from time to time. But, for the most part, you get a nice, clear picture. The first show, GG is wearing nothing but a pair of boots. About five minutes into the show, he points his ass at the crowd and proceeds to take a crap. We shouldn't be at all suprised because this is something GG's been known to do. Besides whacking his head with the microphone until he's a bloody mess, he also manages to stick a drum stick in his butt. That was funny. This show was rather interesting because I feel it covered pretty much everything that GG Allin was about. By the end of his set, it's obvious to see that the club was pretty well trashed. The second show is pretty much the same. GG is drinking pee and, yes, there's more poop. He licks it off the floor and spits it into the audience. He also covers himself with it and asks if anyone would like to suck his dick with shit on it for a free drink ticket. Unfortunately for GG, no one took him up on the offer. The third show was pretty tame compared to the first two. But, it's still GG Allin in all his glory...so to speak, of course. Raw, brutal, rough and bloody??? After this viewing experience, there should be no doubt left in your mind that this is what it was all about. This release features pretty much the same set of songs on each show. Some of GG's best (depending on how you look at it) songs are here..."Hanging Out With Jim," "Expose Yourself To Kids," "I Wanna Rape You," "Bite It You Scum" and "Die When You Die." There's also a tune on here that I never heard before called "I Love Nothing," which was pretty cool. This disc also features the first ever interview with GG's mom which, in my opinion, wasn't all that special. I mean, she didn't really discuss GG in a way that I'm sure people wanted her to. She mostly talked about when he was younger and some of the trouble he got into as a kid, which was pretty mellow stuff. Nothing about the man he became. If you're a GG Allin fan, this is a release that you're gonna wanna check out. If you're someone who's curious about what he was all about, this release is one that will answer all your questions...and then some! http://www.ggallin.com |
