By Paul Autry "Don't dream it...be it!" Here we are, twenty five years later, and the original cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, is still going strong. To celebrate Rocky's 25th Anniversary, the film has been released, once again, on DVD and it has never looked better. While the theater is still the best way to experience The Rocky Horror Picture Show, this two disc package will provide you with the ultimate home viewing experience. You can't go wrong with this release because everything about it is, in a word, fantastic. The DVD's come in a beautiful book like package that features Tim Curry on the front and Richard O'Brien on the back. When you open it up, you're greeted with a picture of Susan Sarandon and a little "pop up" photo of Tim Curry, Patricia Quinn and Little Nell. Actually, the little "pop up" photo holds a small welcome booklet that includes an audience participation prop list and a short bio on the main cast members. As you navigate through both discs, you'll find quite a lot of good stuff to feast upon. You can watch the original movie or the new edition with the "Superheroes" scene edited back in. You can also view the "Once In Awhile" song, which was cut from the film. You'll find the VH1 Pop Up Video of "Hot Patootie" as well as excerpts and outtakes from VH1's Behind The Music, which includes interviews with Susan Sarandon, Meatloaf, Richard O'Brien, Little Nell, Patricia Quinn and Barry Bostwick. You can view the original trailers. You can view various theater moments during certain parts of the film. One of the most interesting features is watching the movie in silence as Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn provide some interesting and sometimes hysterical commentary. This was one of the most enjoyable features on this release. You can also watch the "Wizard Of Oz" version of the film that starts off in black and white and goes into color when Brad & Janet enter the dance hall. There's also a special DVD-Rom feature that includes games, trivia, screen savers and more. Unfortunately, this was a feature that I couldn't get to run on my computer. But, you'll have these things. It's on there though and I'm sure some of you will be able to access it. There has been two sets of Rocky Horror trading cards, a box set, dolls, comic books, various soundtracks and video releases. But, this is, without a doubt, the best piece of merchandise that was ever associated with this timeless classic and it's a must have for any true Rocky Horror fan. Now if they can only do this with the lesser known (and less popular) "Shock Treatment," that would be cool. That was a good movie for what it was...just exactly what it was, some people are still trying to figure that out. |
