Ohne Filter - Musik Pur "Souls On Fire"" I've done reviews on these releases in the past and they're pretty much all the same. A high quality live performance from exceptionally talented and, in some cases, legendary musicians. In that respect, this release is no different. What is different about this release is the fact that it's more or less a compilation from various shows and there seems to be a theme that flows through the selected performances. It's a collection of the more emotional tunes from artists such as Walter Trout, Terence Trent D'Arby, America, Phoebe Snow and Curtis Mayfield to name a few. Best of the bunch here, in my opinion, would be Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings doing "I Put A Spell On You" and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Dukes doing the title track, "Souls On Fire." This is an all around good release. But, it doesn't really make any sense to me. If you happen to like an artist or two on here, why would you buy this for a single performance when you can simply purchase the entire show from that artist. There's 13 different performances on here from 13 different people. Chances are, you're not gonna like each and every artist that's featured here, right? So, why bother? Buy the full show from the people you enjoy and be done with it. If you're just looking to sample some of this music to see what it's all about, sure, then I would suggest picking this one up. As I said, it's an all around good release...and the full shows are just as good and I'm sure that most people will go in that direction to begin with. Whatever works. |
