OpethLamentations... I can not express the delight I had when this dvd came out of the package. Opeth are one of my favorite bands. As they should be for many. This is a fair review. I swear to it. I have not had the opportunity, as of yet to, experience Opeth live. One often wonders when a band sounds so great on a recorded album, what they sound like live. Oddly as this may sound, I believe it was better. Opeth perform a stunning , two set performance. Clocking in at just over two hours. Easily done with just a few of their songs. The first set consists of, in it's entirety ,the Damnation album. A mesmerizing performance. Although each song is wonderful in every way, I found it a little strange to start off a concert with all the melodic songs off just one album. Maybe it was marketing for the dvd only. I don't know. The second set consists of the heavier music of the band. They bash out such favorites as 'The Drapery Falls, Deliverance, Master's Apprentices, The Leper Affinity and A Fair Judgement'. Each song just as precise as if it were being played from the cd. I can't wait. Also included is a documentary on the making of 'Damnation and Deliverance'. With interviews with all the members. You'll be amazed at the musical genius of Mikael Akerfeldt, as well as that of the others. Peter Lindgren, Martin Lopez and Martin Mendez. You have to see it to believe it. Lamentations is recommended for one and all. http://www.opeth.com |
