Paul Di'Anno"The Beast In The East" (DVD) In his first DVD release, Iron Maiden's original vocalist Paul Di'Anno offers up a plethora of viewing pleasures. Beginning with a live show in Poland, the first concert footage begins with the band coming out and roaring with energy thru the instrumental "Transilvania." Di'Anno then joins the rest of the band beginning with "Wrath Child" in his gravely, authoritative voice. "Tonight we're gonna kill everybody!" Shouts Di'Anno…looking more like a bouncer than a metal vocalist, but the crowd is adoringly feverish and couldn't care less about appearances as long as Di'Anno just keeps singing. Rolling thru "The Beast Arises" (who Di'Anno dedicated to his wife), "Murders in the Rue Morgue," "Killers, "Dream Keeper," and several more, the lighting is impressive and pulsating almost dizzying during some segments - and the footage is crisp and vibrant. There are also two bonus bootleg concerts as well. One from Poland, and another filmed in Norway. As expected, the quality is much poorer the sound in particular. There are very few close-ups, and the footage that is closer is taken from the side of the stage. It is, however, kind of cool to get the 'audience perspective' on the DVD in addition to the professionally filmed show. Other bonus features include three audio tracks, and interview with Di'Anno where he answers questions about Iron Maiden and his punk influences, a biography, discography, photo gallery, desktop images, website links, and more. The skull on the cover of the DVD packaging is pretty cliché, but other than it's artwork, "The Beast in the East" is loaded with goodies, and is a must-have for Di'Anno and Iron Maiden fans. |
