Elvis Presley"The Journey" Elvis Presley is a man who needs no introduction. He was, and some say still is, the king of rock 'n' roll. Being the legendary figure that he is, there's a lot of material out there on him. You can seek it out for your entire life and your collection will probably never be complete. With that in mind, I'm not sure if there's really anything special on this release or not. Don't know how well circulated this material is that's featured here. But, if you're an Elvis fan, it doesn't really matter because you'll probably buy it anyway. This is one of those unofficial DVD releases and, if you know anything about those sort of releases, you know they usually don't add up to much of anything and, in a way, the same could be said about "The Journey." After all, his story has been told a million times over on every form of media you could possibly think of...books, television, movies, DVD's such as this. There's an endless supply of Elvis material floating around out there and a 60 minute program is pretty much nothing more than a quick look at some of his most well known moments. That's about all this release is. Although you do get to see a lot of rare footage, most of which is in black and white. There's some live concert footage, home movies and stuff from when he was in the Army. Stuff that an Elvis fan would appreciate. This release does have a bit more to offer. There's an audio CD that features various interviews with Elvis. But, it's one of those one track deals. It's about 42 minutes long and to hear everything on the CD you more or less have to sit and listen to it all at once. I have a Kiss CD that's like that and, personally, I hate those things. I mean, why not make each clip/interview as a seperate track? That would make more sense and make the listening experience a little better. There's also a 32 page booklet which is another quick look at his life. You can read through it in about five minutes. But, it's still a nice addition to your collection. It probably doesn't offer up anything that you don't already know. Is there anything that could though? I highly doubt it. Not sure what the price is on this release. Personally, I wouldn't pay too much for it. I mean, hell, I know a retail store that has two DVD's for $5.99 and they're more or less the same as this. So, that should tell you something. But, once again, if you're an Elvis fan, it doesn't really matter. If it's something you don't have, chances are you're gonna pick it up just to have it. I would like to point out that this release was acting a bit funky in my DVD player. It wasn't scratched or anything and there's nothing wrong with my player. So, I'm not sure if it was just the copy that I recieved or if it was the way it was made or what. But, I had a hard time clicking on stuff. It just didn't seem to wanna work properly. |
