Castle of the Walking Dead Based on Edgar Allan Poe's "The Pit And The Pendulum," this 1967 horror classic, featuring Christopher Lee, is a lesson in terror that you won't soon forget. They don't make 'em like this anymore, that's for sure. While I'm rather fond of the "modern" horror movie, which has a lot of action in the story, it's films such as this that really get under your skin. Lee is Count Regula, a murderous sadist who was drawn and quartered for his crimes. The beauty of it all is the fact that you don't get to see what it is that he's actually done. A simple suggestion is all that's needed, the rest is left to your imagination. The vile acts that his character committed are only as evil as your mind will allow them to be. 35 years later, Count Regula rises from the dead to seek revenge on the daughter of his intended 13th victim and the son of his prosecutor, both of whom have no idea about their past and how it's about to affect their future. However, they soon find out when they take a trip to Count Regula's castle and they become trapped inside, soon to be victims of his evil plan to attain immortal life. I won't give away the ending here because this is one movie that you should see for yourself. If I told you everything about it, that would ruin the viewing experience for you. I would like to mention that the film itself does show signs of aging in places. I don't know who's in charge of taking care of stuff like this, but, you would think they'd do a much better job. After all, this is Christopher Lee we're talking about here. Know what I mean? The man's a legend and his films should be treated with respect and admiration, especially this one, which serves as one of his greatest performances. |
