Written By: Paul Autry Some musicians have created something, a feeling, that can never
be duplicated and Johnny Thunders is someone you can place on that list.
He has been described at the epitome of the spirit of rock 'n' roll and
that's something that I probably wouldn't argue with. Let's talk, for a
moment, about rock 'n' roll...mainly the raunchy/sleaze aspect. Right here,
that's what you see. This is where it all started. Artists like Faster
Pussycat, Guns 'N' Roses, early L.A. Guns and even Motley Crue...they're
perfect examples of raunch/sleaze rock 'n' roll. But, there's a certain magic
that goes with it as well and that magic, I believe, is rooted in time.
There's a time and a place for everything. If you would put the original line
up of, say, Led Zepplin, on a stage right now...they would still be a
great band, they would still make great music. But, they could never
re-capture that original magic they had back in the old days. Well, the same
goes for Johnny Thunders. You can re-create the feeling and you make some
great music. But, you can never capture that original magic. Watching
this release, I can see what influences a lot of the currently popular music
that I'm into. As far as getting what you pay for...this is a release that's
worth shelling out a few bucks to pick up...even if you're not a fan of
Johnny Thunders. There's some cool extra's on here, like a 1984 interview,
the trailer for "Born To Lose - The Last Rock 'N' Roll Movie" and excerpts of
Johnny acting in a French film. There's also a small, but cool DVD catalog on
here that gives you a preview of other releases. What more could you possibly
want?
