"It's not easy trying to juggle a family and a rock band at the same
time," says Jett, the lead singer of the band From Zero whose success
has become somewhat of a catch 22. Although his ultimate dream of
getting his band signed to a major label and heading out to tour the
world has come true there still is one major glitch. Jett is married
with child and not spending enough quality time with his wife and baby
daughter makes things a lot more complicated and less fulfilling.
"There's a ton of headaches and pressure and sometimes the one thing
that suffers more than the band is my family. My family definitely gets
the neglect and the shitty end of the stick."
So what does an artist do when he is caught between loves, between
choices and facing emotional distraught? He writes a song about it. "My
wife had definitely been the subject of a couple of songs on the
record," says Jett who whose first single "Sorry" was based on an
apology letter he wrote to his wife. "Instead of giving her the letter I
presented the song," he explains. "It was very flattering for her and it
kinda helped us out, helped us get through a portion of our relationship
that was sort of suffering at that time. That songs is pretty much me
saying sorry for being such an asshole to her. It was my way of saying
sorry for all the shit and never letting her have her own say."
From Zero's sophomore album, "My So Called Life" on Arista Records
chronicles the trials and tribulations Jett feels as an artist, husband
and father. "Musically and lyrically it all came from the heart from all
four of us," explains the 32 year old front man, "Lyrically, everything
comes from personal experiences and living a day to day life. My life as
a rock and roll musician, life on the road, being in a band with four or
five other guys, having turmoil and heartaches and triumphs. Also, my
relationship with my wife and my daughter is a big inspiration just as
my grandpa who passed away during the making of this record is. A lot of
personal and emotional things went into this."
Jett's personal emotions are deeply threaded throughout the record that
demonstrates From Zero's growth since their Arista Records debut, "One
Nation Under" and provides a more diversely melodic and personal
experience throughout. Singer/songwriter, Jett pours his soul into many
of the songs but it was the track "Free Without A Struggle" that remains
his most sincere. The song is a heart-breaking ballad that lays out
Jett's unconditional love for his daughter and the pain of being apart
from her. "It's kind of like a lullaby," he explains, "She's getting
older now and before, when she was young, she didn't really understand
when I was there and not there and all that. But, now she's like, 'Why
are you always gone' and 'did I do something wrong.' I wrote that for
her because I miss her, but this is what I have to do so we can have
something decent down the road."
From Zero, who is rounded out with his band members Joe Pettinato, Peter
Capizzi and Kid, have evolved into a more structured and layered band
with a wider array of emotions that captures the very essence of
sacrifice for success. "We're definitely very proud of this record. I
think that not only does it sound good and is much better than the first
record, but It's a record that I think you can listen to it from top to
bottom and really enjoy the songs," says Jett. "I want our listeners and
fans to definitely realize that we're writing music from the heart and
that's it's real and it's not just something that put out there real
quick to try and fit into the mold of the rock industry right now. Our
lyrics have a lot of depth. I mean, you listen to radio these days and
listen to some of the lyrics that are out their and its unbelievable,
you know. I guess that's what the masses are used to hearing very simple
stuff, so it'll be a little harder for From Zero to win over the average
listener. But, we if can get the music and CD in their hands that be
something good."
From Zero is currently touring and doing radio promotions. They would've
liked have been added to many of the rock festivals and enormous tours
going on but, "nobody wants to take us with them on the road," Jett
shoots. "I don't know why. Maybe they're afraid that we'll play better
than them or something.who knows."
There is no doubt that From Zero are hoping for big things to come with
the release of this latest effort. But as big as everything may become,
Jett's eye is on his family first. "Family is very important, because at
the end of the day that's all you have. Friends come and go, people come
and go and all you really have is your family. The most important things
for me in my life besides the music is taking care of my little girl."
