"I
had a lot of restlessness, insomnia, things weren't going well and
just life in general was hectic. You know, relationships, everything.Everything
was just a big turnaround and with all of that happening in my life
it was easy to write the lyrics that just grew out of that naturally,"
says Gil Bitton, front man and lyricist for the Florida based rock
outfit, Endo. Bitton somehow managed to write and record the bands
latest album SONGS FOR THE RESTLESS while suffering from depression
and insomnia. -
worn, beaten and as if his life were falling apart, Bitton pushed
himself in the studio and while it was difficult to work under such
physical condidtions the singer explained that without that internal
suffering and frustration the record wouldn't have been quite as poetic.
"When I was tired and frustrtaed I wrote the best shit," he said.
"When I'm feeling good I want to write, but it won't come out as artistic
and poetic and it wouldn't be something where it's like, 'Wow, I can't
believe I wrote that.' A lot of expression comes out of pain."
The album's title, SONGS FOR THE RESTLESS, reflects that restless
state that seized Bitton and the band during the writing and recording
of the new album. "It wasn't easy," Bitton says with a big laugh,
"the life of an artist certainly isn't an easy one, but I wouldn't
have it any other way."
SONGS FOR THE RESTLESS on Columbia Records, which drops on June 24th,
is a well rounded rock album which shows a tremendous amount of range
that takes the listener into different extremes. "It's a very diverse
album," Bitton explains, "we have everything from ballads like 'Circles'
which is related to 9/11 and everything to 'Rukus' which has a chaotic
hardcore theme. So, there's a lot of different area's that we touched
upon."
The first single, "Simple Lies" is a song about song that deals with
the small white lies that we all tell in our daily everyday lives.
Lies that are told to make people feel good and avoid arguments, lies
that we are so lax about telling that they don't even feel like lies.
"Those are simple lies because you love that person and you don't
want to hurt that person," explains Bittton. "Sometimes you got to
do what you gotta do as a human being and you'll always love that
person so being in a relationship is complex, man. There's a lot that
goes into that.I just hope the listener just takes it in the way he
want to, It's all subjective."
While lying may not be good Bitton sums it all up in his lyrics, "Simple
lies is what we are/ and what we have won't hurt anymore"
"It's not just about relationships, it's everything in general. It's
life issues too. Sometimes we lie for a positive reason, because you
don't want to hurt that person or yourself.I'm not saying that lying
is good [Laughs] I 'm not saying that."
For now Endo is prepping for OZZFEST's second stage joining Ozzy,
Korn, Manson, Disturbed, Cradle of Filth, Voivod and many others on
the ulitmate traveling metal circus.Seriously, I'm not lying.
