COMADOSE

NEW ENGLAND'S PATRIOTS
by: Don Sill

These wild boys from New England are creating quite a stir up North with their loud and aggressive brand of nü-metal that is extreme and abrasive. Although they may get lost in the hey stack of a thousand other bands that all sound exactly the same, Comadose is confident that with the strength of their live shows they will work there way to the top of the heap. Its just really good heavy, loud music, says Michael Roberge, the 25 year old Comadose front man, we really work hard and put a lot into our shows. We just try to get really nutty on stage. We get theatrical on stage and jump around and stuff like that. People want to pay to see a show and not just listen to a band. This 6-man band who includes Guitarists Jack Worster & Thomas Ackroyd, DJ Dan Cicchetti, bassist Jason Martin and drummer Jacob Brown have paid there dues and won over crowds within their N.E. club circuit and were recently signed to Screaming Ferret Wreckords. Their debut album, entitled Re-Up, is a 7-song collection of angst and aggression that seems to come from the rejection and pain Roberge must have endured as a youth. Says Roberge, Sometimes when your chips are down and you loose someone you really love and you know that there is nothing you can say thats gonna get her back, you're just outraged. Well, these are the kinds of things you say to that girl. It just doesn't matter anymore and there's nothing to loose. That's where a lot of my lyrics come from. If you don't have nothing to loose you just should say what you wanna say instead of just think it. Tunes like Buzzkill,Numb Skull and Pain For Pleasure are obvious and predictable anthems that seemed to have jumped right on the trendy nü-metal bandwagon. Although there is a sense of musicianship here Comadose's music still comes across as rehashed Limp Bizkit, RATM, and Korn rip-offs. It is as though this band has not yet found their own identity. We're not hard core and these days we are trying to stay away from rap-core, and we're definitely not a rock band. Says Roberge, We are rage-rock I guess, because we're not quite metal either. Call it what you will, but this style of music is certainly a flash-in-the-pan fad and the wicks about to burn out on both ends. Although Comadose does sort of walk the fence of real angst and theatrical aggression they do have some good strong music to back themselves up with. Nü-metal is music that thrives for the moment and for that moment Comadose just may a band worth checking out.
