Flatlyne

"S/T"
(Indie release)

By Jonathan Mariante

Six songs from the latest bunch of Godsmack/Pearl Jam wannabees. Need I say more? They rip off both bands in a big way! Their singer (No info came with the CD so his name, as well as the names of all the band's members, is unknown to me) sounds like he's imitating Sully Erna and Eddie Vedder, and the playing (Especially the guitar) sounds like it was photocopied from a Godsmack album. All six songs sound pretty much alike, there's not a lot of diversity or originality here. The Flatlyners, to be fair, can play pretty well, but can't they be a bit more original? Why be Godsmack clones when we already have a Godsmack, plus many other copycat bands? Needless to say, this didn't excite me very much. I've heard this all before. I think these guys can do better. They chose a fitting name for their band, if you ask me, because their music doesn't have a lot of life in it.
