Diamond Rexx

Just when you think they're gone for good, another 80's band returns
from the land that time forgot (Not saying that's a bad thing by any
means!). Diamond Rexx were a glam/metal band who released a few albums
in the 80's (including their debut, "Land Of The Damned", a minor
classic which I've always liked), but called it quits in the 90's. They
remained silent for almost a decade, but decided to reunite last year.
This four song disc is their latest offering. They appear to have
updated their sound a little bit, at least on the first two songs,
combining their original sound with a more modern, Godsmack-style
approach. These tunes, "Someone" and "Sick", are dark and edgy hard
rockers, with lyrics about people with disturbed minds. The next song,
"Rainy Daze", slows things down a little. It's an 80's style power
ballad, along the lines of Warrant's "Heaven" or Damn Yankee's "High
Enough". The disc is rounded out by an energetic cover of that old
Grand Funk classic "We're An American Band". This one is done more in
the style of old Diamond Rexx. The band appears to be going for a
slightly more modern approach with their new music, but without
completely abandoning their 80's roots, and it seems to work quite
well.
They're still a rocking band, and they've done a good job on this disc.
The real test will come when they release their next full length album.
That will show for sure if the Diamond boys can still cut it.
