The Crown "Crowned In Terror" |
| By
Vinnie Apicella
Opening lines to
"Crowned In Terror" say it all: "It's not over yet, consuming flames of
the faceless one, there's no time to repent, as you bow before the
serpent god…" With one of the most anticipated Metal releases of the
year, The Crown finally earns their rightful place at the left hand
throne with this one. Pulling off one of the biggest coups in history
by
reigning in former At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, they've gone
from consistent underachievers to instant credibility and "Crowned In
Terror" meets the added pressure to compete head on with the deadly
best
on the most intense release of their career. Forged over a decade ago
of
early Death Metal principles and traditionally dark spires of Venom,
Slayer and Nordic tales of triumph, The Crown's underground modern day
"Death-Rock" appeal was impressive enough though they peaked with their
"Deathrace King" release. With that one now a distant memory, "Crowned
In Terror" lunges forward, raising the decibel level at every step and
deals a deadly blow to revisionist protagonists with this high-speed
exercise in mentality, brutality, browbeating and blastbeat efficiency.
Traumatic at its most relaxed, "House Of Hades," "World Below," and
"Crowned In Terror" retain the forward-looking approach The Crown's
always held, upped their ambitions to match their intensity and created
a war-monger of a record that rivals the best of yesterday's heroes of
Thrash and today's Swedish stalwarts. "Under The Whip," is vintage in
its high-speed, holistic approach, while "The Speed Of Darkness" blends
the best of both elements, phasing in bloodcurdling post-choral
effects;
Overall, "Crowned In Terror" is a masterwork of diabolical break-ins,
riff-shifts, rousing solos and rising flames-an unrivaled underground
highlight built on traditionally Black Metal framework and a
sword-crossed mix of classic At The Gates and the satanic shakedown of
previously released Crown works-smokin' on every level!
