SOS
"Adios Bandito"
(Iron Works/3:16 Prods.)

By Jonathan Mariante

Take some Pantera, some hardcore/punk, some good old fashioned hard rock, add a little dash of grunge, and you've got SOS. This album rocks hard, rough, and raw from start to finish! Ever been for a spin in a 70's muscle car? SOS is the musical equivalent to that! Just pure, hard rocking energy all the way! Let's see, what were some of the songs that stood out? Well, a few that really kicked ass were opener "Ole Matador", "Humanity", "Dirt", "Hitchhiker", "My Constitution", "Reach", "Breathing Room", and closer "What I Need" (This one sounds influenced by Suicidal Tendencies). There are also a couple of more doomy, Sabbath-type songs, "On The Spot" and "Nicey Nice"; an unplugged ballad "Drive", where the band mellows out for a minute (but just a minute, and fifty two seconds); a couple of hard rocking instrumentals, "Movers And Shakers" and "Pulse"; and one Nirvana-ish song, "Think They Got Me." A couple of songs I got a kick out of were "Foolproof", another hard rocker that begins with a guy who sounds like Ronald Reagan saying, "If I started murdering people, there wouldn't be any of you left!" ; and a milder rocker called "Sean Mahoney." I once had a classmate called Sean Mahoney, in high school! I did enjoy this album, but there just a few things I didn't like about it, one being that all the songs kind of sound the same; another being that there were no guitar solos, and a rock or metal song is just never complete without one! Also, at almost sixty five minutes and nineteen songs, this album is a bit long, making it a chore to listen to at times. However, those flaws aside (nobody's perfect, after all, and there's always room for improvement on the next album!), SOS are a good band and they know how to rock for sure!
