Rain Fell Within
"Refuge"
(Dark Symphonies)

By Wayne Klinger

Unfortunately I didn't get to hear the debut from this 6-piece band from Virginia which is an awesome display of Goth/Progressive Metal with ambient and atmospheric melancholy wrapped around a few layers of heavy rhythms and angelic female vocals. Dawn uses her voice as much as possible with layered tracks in most songs and a "hats off" to Ron Vento for the engineering and co-production of this CD. Most of you know Ron from Aurora Borealis. Another familiar name goes with the cover art done by Mike Riddick, who both and twin brother Mark are well known for as well as their music skills over 10+ years in the underground. Fans of Within Temptation and Illinois-based doomsters Avernus will enjoy this 10-track sophomore effort following up the successful debut of "Believe" back in 2000. The line-up has changed since their 1996 beginning but this is one tightly played and well thought out CD that I've heard of in some time in this genre. A real crowd-pleaser! www.darksymphonies.com www.rainfellwithin.com
