Menza
"Life After Deth "
(Menzanation Records)

By Jonathan Mariante

Former Mega-Man Nick Menza has a brand new solo album out. He basically did everything on this album-sang, wrote all the songs, played all the instruments (with a little help from a guitarist named Christian Nesmith), and produced and mixed the album, with co-production from Max Norman. Quite a feat, eh? All the songs are brilliantly played! Nick is a very talented musician, and he explores a few different musical styles on "Life...". There are, of course, some booty-kicking metal tunes, like the lead-off track "Life Back", "Heaven's Gate" (which sounds very Megadeth influenced! Guess it's still in his blood!), "I'm Only Saying", "You Won't Forget Me" (which has a beginning similar to Megadeth's "Foreclosure On A Dream"), "Mastervibe", "Monstrous", "Devices", and "RU486" (Very clever title here!). There are also a number of lighter, more melodic tunes, like the mournful "In My Life", "Through The Lies", "Next To You", the Zeppelin-esque "One Nation" (A very well played song but long, going for over eight minutes), and a short, bluesy little ditty called "Ten Years Gone". The album ends in kind of a strange way, with some African style music. This is a very good album. As I said, Nick plays everything very well, and doing everything by yourself is certainly no mean achievement. Hats off to Mr. Menza for a job well done! He has proven that there is "Life After Deth!"
