Headhunter

"Death Cult/And the Sky Turns to Black . . . (the dark age has come)"
(Mercenary Musik/World War III)

By Paul Hanson

This band is touted as being a Brazilian forefather of the Brazilian metal scene. Yeah, whatever. I don't care about that, I want to know if this is good music. Whoever the drummer is in this outfit needs to get in the studio and record a "how-to" video for incorporating tasteful cymbal work into death metal. Lots of growling, have no idea what the guy is singing about, but gems like "Beyond the Deepest Lie," a 1:37 jaunt makes me forget about that downfall. Syncopated ride cymbal recalls the best work of Nicko McBrain and Neil Peart. The first two tracks well exceed the 6 minute mark, which is an advantage for this band because it gives them time to introduce listeners to their powerful musical vision. This lived in my CD player for a few weeks after it arrived.
