Diabolical
"Synergy "
(WWIII)

By Martha Hughes

Diabolical have brought back the sounds of At the Gates. When I first listened to this CD, I immediately thought of that short-lived, yet great Swedish thrash outfit. Synergy brings back all those memories along with planting a few new ones in my head. The vocals are more of a thrash style than death metal, but are still quite good, while the guitar work is outstanding. There are plenty of solos for guitar nuts, yet they all fit well into the music without sounding like some mastibutory crap I've heard before. There are also slower pieces when I can make out some Dissection-type melodies interspersed with impressive drum work. Some say the Vikings are gone. I say they are still with us, destroying the world through metal.
