Archetype

"Dawning"
(self)

By Wayne Klinger

A nice background on guitarist Chris Matyus whom started this band back in 1997. Chris received a degree at University of Akron (Ohio) for Classical Guitar Performance before teaming up with bassist Jamie Stilland drummer Keith Zeigler. 1998 saw this trio release an all instrumental CD entitled "Archetype" before deciding on finding a vocalist, Greg Wagner who was featured on their next release, a 4-song EP entitled "Hands of Time".       Present day; 2002, Archetype releases "Dawning", a 10-track gem of a release racking up almost 67 minutes of technical Power and Progressive Metal. If you listen to the music and the vocals, the likenesses are somewhat in the ballpark of Evergrey, Iced Earth and Dream Theater. Complex timings and everyone's part is important and identifiable on this disc. I can't really tell it any better since this is high-caliber music and makes me wonder why no label has snatched them up yet. I know this seems to be a plug but Archetype would be a suitable band for Magna Carta, Limb Music or Inside Out Music. www.archetype1.com archetype@archetype1.com
