Powder Keg
|
| By
Jonathan Mariante When a band gives themselves a name like Powder Keg, you'd expect them
to make some "explosive" music. I'm sorry to say this, but this band
does not live up to their name. They're not very "explosive" at all.
That's not to say they're a lousy group. They are fairly good
musicians,
but I did expect them to rock a little harder than they do. Most of
their music is mild, middle ground pop rock, similar to Green Day or
the
Goo Goo Dolls. Mind you, there is a handful of good, hard rocking tunes
on here; the opening track "Unemployment", the punkish "Baggage Claim"
(everyone's favorite place to hang out-NOT!), "What I See", and
"Blackmail". There needs to be more tunes like this! Another song I did
enjoy was "G-String Buzz", a one minute, forty second, bluesy
instrumental, played on acoustic guitar by the nimble fingered
guitarist, Ryan Dean. As I said, however, the rest of the album is made
up of more laid back pop rock tunes, the kind of music you might hear
on
a "modern rock" radio station. Not my cup of tea at all. I really
expected this Powder Keg to have a lot more bang in it! Oh well, maybe
on the next album.
