Poptart Monkeys
"Just Like Me"
(Solution Six Records)

By Paul Autry

Yeah, baby...this is what it's all about. We've heard their debut album, "Dancing With My Lunatic," which has been reviewed on this web page before. But, forget what you've ever heard about this band and pay attention to this review because "Just Like Me" is one of the finest rock 'n' roll albums that you will ever hope to hear. Seriously people, this disc blows away a lot of those national releases that you currently have in your collection. The production is awesome and, my God, what more could you possibly want in a rock 'n' roll record? "Just Like Me" takes you back to the time when music was fun...remember that? I should go through this album track by track just to let you know what you're getting. But, I don't wanna spoil it for you because, when you hear this album for the first time, it hits you and it hits you hard. Opening track "No Way Out" is pure rock through and through. Skip down to track number four and you've got the cool as hell "Star Washed," which boasts a fun little chorus of "I'm a fake, I'm a clown and I'll be pounding that pavement so you know I'm not messing around and my shit's brown. I'll be dating Brooke Shields tonight and my mom's so proud." Track seven, "Planet Boom" is one of the most interesting songs on this album. The intro to this song is about a minute and 40 seconds worth of, I don't know what you'd call it, dance beats with rap scratchin' and then it explodes into a hardcore style vocal rap and it moves into a smooth chorus. "Super Hero" is kind of a ballad...the Skid Row, "I Remember You" style of song where it's both mellow and heavy at the same time. Oh yeah, we get down to track ten for another cool rock 'n' roll song, "She Like Girlz," which has the catchy line, "My girl she likes girls, does things with bright white pearls, her tongue's in places that we don't talk about." It's a Motley Crue "Same Ol' Situation" kind of song...only better. Finally, there's a cool hidden track called, of all things, "Thrift Store Chair," which is about a guy and girl going their seperate ways and they're fighting over who gets to keep the chair. Go figure. It's actually a cool song that's not as silly as it sounds. Let me tell you something people, this is the kind of album that you only dream about hearing. Well, you don't have to dream anymore because your favorite Poptart Monkeys have made it into a highly entertaining reality. They're gonna have a hard time following this one up, that's for sure. But, the musical well of PTM is far from running dry and I'm sure they'll do a damn good job. That's the future though...no sense in talking about something that isn't here yet. So, just be sure to pick up a copy of "Just Like Me" to make all of your musical dreams come true. http://www.poptartmonkeys.com
