Live Not on Evil
|
| By
Jonathan Mariante This is the debut album from these lucky stiffs (cleverly titled!), and
they crank out some moshing tunes here! They are very influenced by
80's
thrash metal, punk/hardcore, and a bit of stoner rock. Influences from
bands like Anthrax, Biohazard, Black Sabbath, and Motorhead show
through
in Live Not On Evil music. In fact, the song "Lullaby For A Lost Soul"
sounds very much like "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. Of the other
songs on the album, the first four, "Brainwash" (which deals with the
negative influence of the media, calling it an "empire of scum."), "The
Machine", "The Scary Polka", and "Sweet" really mosh it out! While
other tunes like "Fly Catcher", "Flowers", and closing track "Outside"
venture more into stoner territory, with fuzztone guitars and more
Sabbath influence, and the latter two being slower-paced songs. The
production is not great but these guys can play relatively well,
although the music tends to be a bit monotonous at times, and it's
nothing that hasn't been done before. Nonetheless, it is raw, stripped
down, aggressive, slamming rock and roll, good for what it is despite
its flaws. This album could get a mosh pit going!
