Chigger Red
"Hammered"
(Road Tooth)

By Jonathan Mariante

Chigger Red have "hammered" out a thirteen-song disc of badass barroom boogie tunes! These guys are a hard rocking, blues influenced trio, who play raunchy, gritty, no frills, down and dirty rock and roll! They're from California, but sound like they're from the backwaters of the Deep South. Their style is influenced by classic bands like ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Foghat, with a dash of Buck Cherry here and there. Chigger Red is made up of singer/guitarist Mike Stansberry, his bass playing brother Chris, and drummer Leo Cuevas. They are all good players. Mike plays guitar very well. His style seems influenced by George Thouroughgood, and other blues players. The band also adds a few humorous touched to their music, such as the closing track, "Piss In The Wind". This is a joke country song, and it's a hoot! "Hammered" is a very enjoyable CD. Fun as hell! The Chigs, as I said, are a straight ahead, hard blues rock band, they don't pull any punches, and they are good musicians. This is the way rock and roll's meant to be! What more could you ask for?
