Charnel House
"From Birth To Burial"
(Indie Release)

By Jonathan Mariante

Welcome to Charnel House! Come on in...if you dare! But I warn you, this is not for the weak of heart! Only the most die hard metalheads should dare to enter Charnel House! These guys play some brutal, aggressive, neck-breaking thrash metal, very influenced by Slayer. This is a blitzing album that will melt your eardrums! Singer John King (any relation to Kerry King, I wonder? That name is just TOO coincidental!) is a dead ringer for Tom Araya, and the rest of the band crank out the thrash as if possessed, storming their way through the album! Guitarists Brian Purr and John Siemerling (very influenced by Hanneman/King) really blaze across their fret boards, and play some killer solos! The playing is tight and technically proficient, and the whole band just kicks ass! Many of the songs deal with horror themes, and have some sicko lyrics! Opener "Of Blood And Bone", "Number 13", "Tale Of Murder", "Dance Of The Dead", "The Final Scream" (about grave robbers!), and "Comatose In A Coffin" (about being buried alive!)...the titles alone suggest that this band does not exactly sing about "sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows!" As I said, this is not an album for the faint hearted, or weak stomached! As for some of the other songs, "Birth Of A Monster" deals with insanity, "No Reason To Die" is about suicide, and "Terrorist", as the title suggests, lashes out in anger against our nation's greatest enemies. Well, if you're an iron hearted metal fan who likes your metal brutal, hardcore, and thrashing, then Charnel House is the band for you! Remember when Metal Church's debut album first came out, it came with it's own neck brace? Well, this album should too! Mosh hard forever!
