Absolute
"Absolute"
(EP/Ind. release)

By Jonathan Mariante

This is a three-song EP from this band. They are very grunge influenced, by bands such as Alice In Chains and Creed, with a touch of hardcore thrown in. They play fairly well, but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. The first song, "Far", sounds like it could have been done by Creed. The second song, "Empty", I thought was the best of the three. It's the most aggressive and hard rocking song on the disc. It sounds influenced by Biohazrad (who Absolute have opened shows for) and has some good power chords. The third and last song, "Confessions", sounds like Sabbath meets Tool, a slow paced, heavy funeral dirge tune. I don't really get into this style of music, but these guys are decent enough musicians, and good at what they do, if not the world's most original band. But this is just their first outing, so let's cut them some slack. When they release a full-length album, they will have hopefully sharpened their skills as songwriters and musicians a little more.
