NYC Smoke
|
| By
Paul Autry As soon as I heard the opening track, "Balance," one thing came
to mind...Nirvana. The second track, "Harbor," I thought of that
band again...mixed with The Rolling Stones. Heard a little early Alice
Cooper style guitar in the third track, "Lies." I could go on and review
the entire disc this way because I hear something different in each
song, which is a good thing. Sorry to say, I don't know New York based
musician/composer Howie Statland's history here. But, he's been around and I
assume most people would know him from his RCA band, Thin Lizard Dawn. I
don't, but, hey, I can't keep up with everybody...I'm not God, ya know! But,
this is his latest project and, for the most part, I'd have to say that it's
a pretty good album. I'd have to say it's straight forward rock 'n'
roll with a little bit of this and a little bit of that...if I can
hear something different in each song, I'm sure you will too. This guy
has been around and it's not hard to see why. He certainly knows how to
rock 'n' roll. Since I'm not familiar with is history, I can't comment on
his other material. So, I don't know if his long time fans will get
into this or not. But, if you're looking for a good rock album, you'll
find it right here. http://www.Soundarte.com
