George Lynch

"Furious George"
(Shrapnel Records)
by Jonathan Mariante

Life after Dokken continues for guitarist George Lynch with his latest offering, a collection of twelve cover tunes., The songs covered are all rock classics, including "Space Station #5" (Montrose), "All Along The Watchtower" (Dylan/Hendrix), "Stormbringer" (Deep Purple), "Bridge Of Sighs" (Robin Trower), "Sin's A Good Man's Brother" (Grand Funk), "Blood Of The Sun" (Mountain), "Dancing Madly Backwards (Captain Beyond), and "Precious And Grace" (ZZ Top). All these songs are ones that originally inspired George (and many others) to start playing, and he wanted to pay tribute to his influences. He does a good job on this album, shredding like crazy throughout. The album is riddled with hot licks and solos. George and his boys keep it real, and made a pure, no frills, guitar oriented rock album with a lot of blues influence. Everyone George has recruited for "Furious..." does a good job. Vocals are handled by Kelly Keeling, drums by Jeff Martin, bass by Gunter Nezkoda, rhythm guitar by Kevin Curry, and keyboards by Mark Robertson. Dokken fans, don't expect to hear much of that band on this album. This is a far cry from Dokken. That however doesn't mean that Dokken fans won't enjoy it. It's a rocking album, and George's gutiar talents really shine on here, more so even than in Dokken, arguably. George lets loose on "Furious...", letting his fingers do the walking (or running, rather!) up and down the fretboard! George smokes!
