FREYA play hardcore with a touch of metalcore. This is quite an accomplished effort that features excellent song-writing with plenty of variation. Whereas some bands of this genre are way too predictable, FREYA manage to keep things exciting thoughout As the Last Light Drains. Although some of the tracks have a more melodic slant, FREYA counters these tracks with explosive intensity in songs like "Down in Flames" and "Resuscitate." These songs remind me of some of the finer aspects of HEAVEN SHALL BURN or HATEBREED. The production on As the Last Light Drains is outstanding allowing the band's energy to pour forth with sparkling clarity. Those of you into melodic hardcore and/or metalcore will undoubtedly find plenty to enjoy on this album. Cheers to FREYA for a job well done!
