SOMETIMES X

"Zero 2 Hero"

(Chavis Records)

by Jonathan Mariante

This trio, consisting of singer/guitarist Tommy Redd, bassist Monty Conner, and drummer Mickey Wade play straight up rock and roll with a variety of influences, from The Beatles to Aerosmith to Offspring. Their style combines elements of classic and modern style rock, and has a pop flavor throughout the album. The band plays well, and Tommy can really jam on the guitar. He is heavily influenced by Aerosmith's Joe Perry, and the Aerosmith influence also shines through on the songs "Step Down", "Color Me Gone", and "What I Like", all 'Smith style, thrusting hard rock tunes. On the other songs, opener "Guilty" sounds like the punk/pop sounds of Offspring meeting a classic hard rock style, "Take" is a folksy number with some Beatles influence, and "Shoebox" and "Touched" are middle of the road songs, the former with a little bit of Black Sabbath mixed in. These guys are a fairly good band who can rock out when the want to. If all goes well, Sometimes X should be able to mark their spot in the world of rock and roll. http://www.sometimesx.com
