Destroyer 666
"Phoenix Rising"

Today, when
the sweet lilting sounds of dungeons and dragons metal permeates the
landscape, few purveyors of malevolence can crack through the candy
coated scene. "Phoenix Rising" is a gnarled, tooth decayed bite of reality
infecting a saccharin world. Isolated by geography, as well as psychology,
Austrailians are fiercely independent. Extreme by nature, a necessity
in the inhospitable Outback, true Aussies call their own shots, answering
to no man. The musical punsihment and vitriolic lyrics of Destroyer
666 exhibit that same attitude...in spades! It took awhile for the vilest
examples of the early 90's death metal explosion to filter Down Under.
By '95, former Bestial Warlust guitarist KK Warslut had recruited members
from the ranks of Oz's bottom feeding elite, like Abominator and Hobbs
Angel Of Death. Together, this band of marauders distilled the crudest
and most vicious elements from European and American death squads to
unleash one of the most over the top underground offerings heard anywhere.
As volatile and unstable as its creators, the sonic missle, christened
"Violence Is The prince Of This World," obliterated stereo systems and,
rumor has it, quite a few eardrums, with a relentless barrage of raw,
atomic mayhem. Some bands invent nonsensical names for the sole purpose
of portraying themselves as evil incarnate, not so Warslut, Bullet Eater,
Shrapnel and Howitzer. Strict adherents to living by the headbanger's
code of beer, babes and barbarism, Destroyer 666 quickly garnered the
attention of rabid fans and international press. By the time "Unchain
The Wolves" hit the street in '96, the world was not only aware of Australian
war metal, but clamoring to see/hear the masters perform live. Despite
a trio of successful tours throughout the homeland, much like their
ancestors, Destroyer 666 have yet to leave the confines of their formal
penal colony. Soon after Deceiver usurped the drum throne, Destroyer
666 recorded the infamous "Satanic Speed Metal" seven inch, perfecting
the current combination of blistering thrash guitar, modern black metal
and the caustic death voice. It wasn't long before "Season Of Mist"
came beckoning at the door. Although a debut for the label, "Phoenix
Rising" is already a priority, building on the hard fought respect the
band has earned on its own. A European tour is already planned. |
