Siebenburgen was formed in 1994 by Marcus Ehlin (guitar/vocals) and Anders
Rosdahl (drums). A few months later, Fredrik Brockert (bass) joined the
band. A self titled demo was recorded in February 1996 and Linus Ekstrom
joined as a second guitarist. Several shows were played with Bewiched,
Sacramentum and In Aeturnum among others to help perfect their live
abilities. During Halloween weekend in 1996, a second demo was recorded,
"Ungentum Pharelis," which landed Siebenburgen a multi-album deal with
Napalm Records. Their debut album, "Loreia," was recorded in April 1997. A
German tour followed with Forbidden Site and Menhir. Their sophomore
release, "Grimjaur," was recorded in January/February 1998 and released in
may the same year. In July, they went on tour again, this time with
Atanatos and Ragnarok. On both demos and the first two albums, Lovisa
Hallstedt contributed female vocals and violin, adding depth to the
Siebenburgen sound. "Grimjaur" was the last album she played on. In 1999,
a new female vocalist Kicki Hoijertz joined Siebenburgen. On "Loreia" and
"Grimjaur" the lyrics were all written in Swedish. But, this tradition has
been broken on their third album, "Delictum." Now most of the lyrics are
written in English but they still depict creatures from old folklore, in
the shape of dark poetic fairy tales. Siebenburgen is the old European name
of Transylvania.
