Total War
"We Are...Total War"
Necropolis Records

Total War is the resulting damage from a combined attack from members of Hypocrisy, Lock Up, In Aeternum, Pain, Infernal, Necrophobic, ex-Dark Funeral, ex-Marduk, Alagion, Abruptum, Ophthalamia and Vondur. Raw, pitiless black metal conducted by band mastermind David "Blackmoon" Parland and recorded in Sweden's Abyss Studios are the spoils of this war. Total War began as a side project of David "Blackmoon" Parland and Tony "It" Sarkka called War and quickly evolved into an elite force of Sweden's most notorious musical war criminals. The bands first effort, "Total War," was a primitive blast of hate filled black metal that violently assaulted the senses and intimidated the politically correct. It featured Blackmoon (Necrophobic, Dark Funeral) on guitar, It (Ophthalamia, Vondur) on vocals, Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain, Lock Up) on drums and Mikael Hedlund (Hypocrisy) on bass. The band returned to Abyss Studios to cut their second album, "We Are War," which was shrouded in controversy. The line up consisted of veteran warriors Blackmoon and All, joined by raw recruits Lars Szoke (Hypocrisy) and Impious (In Aeternum). Due to a disagreement between band and label, the album was released in a different form than originally planned and a real war began between Blackmoon and Necropolis in the international press. The American release of "We Are War" resulted in the threat of legal action from the other War (Low Rider, The World Is A Ghetto, Eric Burdon and War, etc.) and the band was forced to change their name in the US. The problems surrounding this release led the band to call it quits and "We Are...Total War" serves as a memorial to the violent Swedish black metal machine that was War. Blackmoon and Necropolis have since sorted out the issues in the contention concerning the bands controversial sophomore effort and have once again re-allied to bring the material to you in the form Blackmoon originally intended...the best of both long out of print releases are represented on this disc and in the form the band originally intended. NOTE: Necropolis Records does not share all of the beliefs expressed in the lyrical content herein, we do however, hold the belief that true freedom comes only when all parties are able to express their opinions and ideas free of censure and discrimination.
