Relative Ash
"Our Time With You"
The Island Def Jam Music Group

Formed four years ago on the South side of Chicago, this 5 piece aggressive rock band comprised of members Marcus Harrington (vocals), Carlos Salazar (guitar), Junior Antunez (guitar), Chuck Ford (bass) and John Salazar (drums) started out jamming together whenever and wherever they could. Within two years Relative Ash was headlining a sold out Metro in Chicago, playing the Warped tour in the United Center and, in the spring of 1999, was invited to join the X Games tour for a month. The X Games tour gave the band their first taste of life on the road and helped them begin to build a fan base outside of Chicago. It was this increased national exposure that brought them to the attention of Island Records and led to their subsequent record deal. With a label behind them, Relative Ash set out to record their debut album. They wanted to create a record that was full of the energy and emotion they had felt when writing and performing their songs. In order to reach this goal, the band enlisted the production talents of veteran producer Steve Thompson (Guns 'N' Roses, Metallica, Korn). The result is a gut wrenchingly honest record with intricate rhythms, heavy grooves and impassioned lyrics. Lyrically, songs like "Hymen," "Breathe," "Pout" and "Good Form" speak of the loss of loved ones, the Aids crisis, the desire to be a father and the responsibility of being a good human being. "Bounce" speaks of unity with its vicious hook and infectious lyrics. Relative Ash is a celebration of the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Like people, every song has a different personality.
