A few years ago, in the early days of Fleurety, some found the band so objectionable that they saw it fit to do a service to the black metal scene by actively trying to thwart a record deal. Members, and subsequently their first label, Misanthropy Records, were informed in no uncertain terms of the opinion of their opponents' had of them and their music and were treated to countless anonymous death threats as well as several dark parking lot scuffles with gentlemen in balaclavas eager to show off their knucleduster collections. Today, however, Fleurety is one of the most respected bands in Norway, with what was previously dismissed as an insult to the ear having been long revised into an acknowledgement of Fleurety's individuality and musical genius, at least, that is what the band told us anyway. After a long interval of non-creativity, Norway's enfants terribles return with a follow up to their promising 1995 debut, "Min Tid Skal Komme," demonstrating that they remain as interested in derivativeness and faceless conformity as they have always been.
In the summer of 1998, Fleurety entered Jester Studio (where Arcturus "La Masquerade Infernale" was made) to record their second full length album, "Department Of Apocalyptic Affairs," assisted by a number of friends and acquaintances whose names will be familiar to most: Einar Sjurso of Beyond Dawn, Carl Michael of ved Buens Ende/Aura Noir, Maniac and Hellhammer of Mayhem, Sverd of Arcturus, Garm of Ulver, Carl August Tideman of Arcturus/Tritonus and Knut of Ulver/Arcturus; plus vocalist Vilde of the dark gothic/electro act Magenta, the bass player of the Norwegian pop/rock act Ephemera, Karianne Horn and Mari Solberg (as on the current mini-cd) and two other singers. Due to logistic complications arising from the band members being occupied with their studies and each currently residing in different countries, plus fist fights, knife fights and other disagreements between the label and the band, both the mini-cd and the album have been somewhat slow in coming. However, "Last Minute Lies" emerges at last to put Fleurety back on the map and tie fans over until the long awaited album, scheduled for release on the very eve of the Apocalypse.
